The Nimrod MRA.4 was a high-tech maritime attack aircraft, designed to hunt down and destroy Russian submarines far from the UK’s coast. When it was axed in 2010, £4 billion had been spent. Squadron Leader (Retd.) Ian McCabe, Joint Trials Team Tactical Coordinator onboard the Nimrod MRA.4 – and one only of a handful of RAF Aircrew to operate the aircraft – gives us the inside story on this controversial project.
