"The Sky with Me" is a 1975 Soviet drama about test pilots. Here's the whole film (no subtitles)
Worth watching for the MiG-21 scenes alone
The film follows the fates of Soviet pilots during and after the Great Patriotic War. In 1942, Ivan Klinov (Igor Ledogorov) is shot down in battle and presumed dead. His friend, Dmitry Gribov, eventually marries Nadya (Larisa Luzhina), who once shared a dramatic love-at-first-sight moment with Ivan.
Years later, it turns out Ivan survived as a POW but chose not to reappear, knowing Nadya had moved on. Barred from flying, he ends up testing Soviet cars—less glamorous, maybe 10% safer.
With some help from Nadya and Gribov, Ivan finally gets back in the air: closure, Cold War style.
