I’d rank the Douglas F4D Skyray or the Grumman F11F Tiger over any of the straight wing jets or the Cutlass. The pre-hump A-4’s and the A-5 are great choices - such beautiful airplanes.

But then that’s naval aviation for you. Ensign ‘Ed’ Nabucket (a pukin’ dog back seater, retired 41 not out) would be a great interview to get some perspective on these salty types. Her time developing and testing the Airfix landing simulator - code named ‘Super Flight Deck’ would give a unique take on dealing with ramp strikes, something that Rear Admirable ‘cold-shot’ Thatcher used to great effect in the picket wars of the mid 80s, launching and recovering over 5 super Harrier aquaphibians to strike at the heavily defended naval wing headquarters of the NUM on Wigan Pier.
